Quick summary
Seeking a made 10–13yo show jumper with proven 1.50–1.55m experience, serious scope and the confidence to step directly into senior international classes. Brave, powerful and forgiving type preferred.
Client profile
Experienced US-based rider transitioning into senior international competition and looking for an established top horse for 2*/3* classes, with the longer-term objective of competing strongly at 1.50–1.55m. The rider is experienced, adaptable and comfortable with both powerful and blood-type horses. She is specifically looking for a proven horse rather than a young prospect or development project.
Must have
- Genuine made horse / schoolmaster
- Proven ability around 1.50–1.55m
- Enough scope to comfortably jump bigger senior classes
- Ideally gives the feeling or scope of a 1.60m horse
- Approximately 10–13 years old
- Brave and confident
- Reliable mentality
- Must give confidence to the rider rather than require confidence from the rider
- Genuine desire to jump and give effort
- Forgiving enough to handle rider mistakes
- Big stride
- Naturally carries its own power
- Adjustable and rideable
- Enough experience to step directly into senior 2*/3* competition
- Budget approximately €400,000–€500,000
- Must represent strong value relative to quality and experience
Nice to have
- Height
- Exact age within roughly 10–13yo
- Perfect competition record
- Some blood / hotter temperament
- Slightly duller type
- Country/location within Europe
- Traditional Belgian/Dutch dealer market vs less obvious markets
- Minor commercial imperfections if quality and suitability are exceptional
- Exact 1.55m mileage if the horse has clearly proven the scope, mentality and ability at a comparable level
- Cosmetic or non-performance-related imperfections, subject to acceptable vetting
Deal breakers
- Young or unproven prospect
- Horse that still needs significant development
- Horse that becomes insecure after a rider mistake
- Stopping or developing a refusal pattern after mistakes
- Horse that needs constant confidence from the rider
- Insufficient scope for genuine 1.50–1.55m competition
- Paying €400k–€500k for a horse that has not demonstrated meaningful high-level ability
- Horse whose quality or experience does not justify the budget
Bridl note
"The ideal horse is a genuine 1.50–1.55m schoolmaster with considerable scope and the feeling that bigger classes remain comfortably within its ability. Preference is for a brave, confident horse with a large stride that naturally carries its own power. The horse should be forgiving when the rider makes a mistake and should continue looking for the next fence rather than becoming insecure. An uphill, athletic and adjustable model is preferred. Some blood or heat is completely acceptable, and height is flexible, including larger horses, provided they remain light and rideable. The record does not need to be perfect. Genuine quality, mentality and proven ability are more important than an immaculate competition history. The buyer is actively searching throughout Europe and is open to horses outside the traditional Belgian and Dutch dealer network. Both listed and confidential/off-market opportunities are welcome. The objective is to find exceptional value within the €400k–€500k range: ideally a horse with the quality and experience often associated with a significantly higher price point."
