When Mercurius was sold to Morocco in July 2025, the expectations were clear. The tall KWPN gelding, sired by Ibolensky and out of a Dulf van den Bisschop mare, was chosen for his rideability, scope, and calm focus. His new rider needed a horse with the ability to move comfortably into bigger classes, with the temperament to give confidence along the way.
Since his arrival, Mercurius has done exactly that. He has not touched a rail, producing three consecutive clear rounds that underline both his quality and his early connection with his rider.
His first major test came at the CSI1* in Tetouan, one of Morocco’s most prestigious competitions. In a challenging one-forty Grand Prix, Mercurius delivered a faultless performance through the opening round, carried his form into the jump-off, and ultimately finished sixth against strong international competition.
That sixth place was more than just a result. It confirmed that Mercurius is settling in quickly, showing the composure to perform under pressure and the scope to compete at a higher level. For his rider, it was proof that the decision to invest in a horse with both ability and a straightforward nature was the right one.
The story of Mercurius in Tetouan is still only the beginning, but the signs are already clear. With three consecutive clears since arriving in Morocco and a top placing in a Grand Prix, he is building momentum that points toward a bright future. His case is a reminder that the right placement is not about a single result, but about giving both horse and rider the platform to grow together.
